Southcoast Hospitals’ Auxiliaries & Guild announce 2021 scholarship recipients

FALL RIVER, NEW BEDFORD, and WAREHAM, Mass. – The Auxiliary of Charlton Memorial Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary, and the Tobey Hospital Guild each announced 2021 scholarship recipients awarded to local students pursuing a career in health care.

In total, 11 scholarships were awarded to local 2021 high school graduates. The Auxiliary of Charlton Memorial Hospital awarded three $1,000 scholarships and two $500 scholarships to students in the Greater Fall River Area; the St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary awarded three $1,000 scholarships to students in the Greater New Bedford area; and the Tobey Hospital Guild awarded three $1,000 scholarships to students in the Greater Wareham Area.

One Scholarship awarded by the Tobey Hospital Guild is made possible through the kindness and generosity of Mrs. Elizabeth Martone, who created the Leonard P. Martone scholarship in loving memory of her husband. This scholarship is always dedicated to a student pursuing a career in nursing to show appreciation of the Tobey Hospital and ICU nursing staff who provided exceptional care to her husband while he was a patient there.

The 2021 Scholarship Recipients include:

Greater Fall River:

  • Emma Adkins, a graduate of Portsmouth High School, will be attending Northeastern University this fall to study health sciences with the intent of completing the pre-medical program. Emma would like to become an emergency department doctor or anesthesiologist. She would like to serve with Doctors Without Borders.
