Staff doing a food drop

Submitted by Julie Parienti

Bamboo Dental has teamed up with Cardiff Foodbank to help provide vital food donations for the local community by delivering monthly shop runs of essential items.

The pandemic has been a testing time for everyone in Wales, and Bamboo Dental is determined to help the local people who rely on the Cardiff Foodbank for their meals.

Principle Dentist Dr. Daniel Rogers said the work which goes into providing the Cardiff food bank service is inspiring.

They wanted to contribute in some small way to help ease the terrible issues around hunger in the community.

The cosmetic dental practice, based in Ely, Cardiff, will donate food in the form of a monthly ‘shop run’ worth £100 for a period of six months.

Every month the Bamboo Shop Run will be comprised of the Foodbank’s most-needed non-perishable items.

In addition, Bamboo Dental will become a collection point for its in-treatment patients only.

Patients who are currently attending the practice for an appointment will be able to donate to the Bamboo Shop Run, if they wish to do so.

A Cardiff Foodbank representative said: “We are thrilled to have the support of Bamboo Dental and their patients during what continues to be a challenging time for so many people in Cardiff.

“Cardiff Foodbank relies on donations from the public and we really appreciate the efforts Bamboo Dental are making to coordinate a regular collection for us over the next few months.

“This kindness and generosity will ensure we can continue our fight against hunger in our city.”

Cardiff Foodbank provides short-term emergency food to individuals and families in crisis.

15,063 three-day emergency food supplies were provided to local people in crisis by Cardiff Foodbank between April 2019 and March 2020 – of which 38% went to households with children less than 11 years old.

During their visit, service users receive a food parcel based on their dietary requirements and access to additional services that may be available.
