Alexandria, Va., USA – The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) announced Kiyoshi Koyano, Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan, as the 2021 recipient of the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Research in Prosthodontics and Implants. Koyano was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the virtual 99th General Session & Exhibition of the IADR, held in conjunction with the 50th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) and the 45th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research (CADR), on July 21-24, 2021.

Koyano received his D.D.S. in 1993 and Ph.D. in 1983 from Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan. After completing his Ph.D. he became full time faculty at University of California, Los Angeles, USA. He is currently Professor and Chairman of the section of implant and rehabilitative dentistry at Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan.

Koyano has published widely, with more than 250 papers, books and chapters, on clinical practice and prosthodontics, temporomandibular disorders, implants and physiology of the masticatory system. He has held a number of prominent international positions in prosthodontics. He served as co-president of the International College of Prosthodontics, as editor of the Journal of Prosthodontic Research and is credited in creating a focus on evidence-based dentistry. Koyano is a prominent scientist in Japan, he is a regular a speaker and presenter at IADR and a renowned advocate of early-career researchers and clinicians in prosthodontics.

The Research in Prosthodontics and Implants Award is one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards and one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR. This award consists of a monetary prize and plaque and gives recognition to outstanding research accomplishments in the field of Prosthodontics.
