Lithoz is further expanding its expertise in the dental sector with its innovative ceramic 3D printing solutions and strategic collaborations. The results of these efforts will be displayed at the IDS Show  International Dental Show) 2021 in Cologne.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, Lithoz has set forth the mission to further develop ceramic 3D printing as an established and innovative production technique in the dental industry. Customers can now choose from five different 3D printing systems and more than 10 different ceramic materials. Using Lithoz’s Lithography-based Ceramic Manufacturing (LCM) technology and 3D printers, established materials such as alumina and zirconia can be processed to produce high-precision restorations and implants, as well as glass-ceramic material such as lithium disilicate. The results meet the highest standards of aesthetics, realistic translucency and color, as well as having as realistic fissures as can possibly be produced. The other relevant requirements, such as high strength, good biocompatibility and a suitable fit, are also fulfilled via this method.

The high efficiency of the LCM process allows for significant material savings of up to 80% compared to CAD/CAM procedures. In addition, the previous limits of conventionally manufactured dental products are already be overcome in some areas – new printing times of less than one minute per dental implant, as well as the minimal effort involved in the post-processing due to restorations tapering off without edges, are clearly advantageous not only for innovators but also for more conservative users who may not yet use 3D printing. This technology not only increases customer satisfaction but also improves productivity and ultimately sustainability during manufacturing thanks to both material and energy saved.

Metoxit AG, a well-known dental specialist based in Switzerland, is working together with Lithoz to perfect 3D printed dental implants. As a pioneer in the dental industry, scientific leadership is being provided by Dr. Jens Tartsch, a well-known specialist in ceramic implantology who is also president of the European Society for Ceramic Implantology.

A new site in Vienna will enable Lithoz to meet even the highest demands of dental and medical customers with the help of state-of-the-art manufacturing solutions embedded in a GMP-compliant infrastructure. With more than 2200 m2 of additional space for the production of machines and materials and a quality management system according to ISO 13485 and FDA (21 CFR Part 820), the company can ensure high levels of product quality from development and production to delivery to the customer. “When planning and implementing the new production site, our main focuses were sustainability, scalability and reliability. We are ready and well equipped not only for the current, but also the future requirements of our customers,” said Dr. Daniel Bomze, Head of Business Unit Medical.

Lithoz will be giving a lecture about using LCM technology for producing dental and medical devices at the IDS show and will be present at the event from 22nd – 25th September 2021 at Hall 03.1/Booth L-069.
