On Tuesday morning, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office honors one of his own Deputy Orthodontic William Diaz, who died of COVID-19.
A worship service celebrating his life will take place at the McGregor Baptist Church in 3750 Colonial Boulevard. The service was planned with Diaz’s family from 11:00 am at Fort Myers, and Sheriff Carmine Marseno says his entire office would be involved. The LCSO encourages people to come out to help their fallen comrades, but Marseno understands the current public health situation, so everyone sets masks and social distances. States to follow the CDC guidelines.
This is one of the three members of LCSO who died of COVID-19 in the last two weeks. Marseno says there is no word to capture the wounds that everyone is feeling from this loss. Diaz was only 29 years old.
“In many cases, citizens can choose not to go out, to leave their homes, or to feel the risk of not entering a place or building. There is no such luxury,” Marseno said. “And unfortunately our heroes paid the ultimate price, so we want them to come out and support our heroes and support our family. And we want to show him the best support and the best possible see-off. “
Marseno describes Diaz as an amazing young man in front of his life, saying it will be an “amazing” service dedicated to his life and sacrifice.
“It’s from the bottom of my heart that we talk about Vice Diaz,” Marseno said. “Obviously, we’re constantly communicating with his family and trying to help them experience a sad process. I can’t imagine what they’re feeling. We’re a huge blow. In the last week and a half, two weeks, I lost three to Covid. It’s devastating. “
LCSO will livestream the event for those who cannot attend the service directly On Facebook page..
