KOKOMO, Ind. – It’s the classic question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” In Heaven’s case, it was a chance encounter with a dentist at her elementary school and hearing them talk about helping people with their smile. She credits her random decision to enroll at IU Kokomo to help her on the path of becoming the answer to the question.

Watch this final video of three to learn more of Heaven’s story, and don’t forget to like and subscribe if you are looking for more great content.

Normally, The Red Chair is randomly placed around the IU Kokomo campus. Anyone walking by is free to sit down, get comfy, and share their experience about IU Kokomo. The Zoom Chair helps us continue to tell our story away from campus.

Education is KEY at Indiana University Kokomo.

Description of the video:

Pre-Dental Transcript for Heaven Powers – The Zoom Chair

Heaven Powers sits in her house on a zoom recording for the Zoom Chair Series at IU Kokomo. The Zoom Chair logo is on the screen as well has text introducing Heaven as a major in biological and physical sciences.

Another graphic pops on the screen asking viewers to subscribe to IU Kokomo on youtube.

Soft pop music plays in the background and Heaven speaks.

Of course everybody wants to be happy and healthy and all of those things that are especially important right now. But I guess if we’re talking about career-wise, long-term I feel like IU is going to help me accomplish my goal.

I’ve always wanted to be a dentist, since like middle school.

We had a career day and this kid’s dad, I don’t even remember the kid’s name, but… I don’t think I’ve ever met him in my life, but his dad was a dentist and he came in and he was just kind of telling us how, you know, his days went. And how he got to help people. And he showed us like some before and after pictures, you know, where some people had some missing teeth. Or, you know, an accident, or whatever the case may have been.

And I kind of thought I want to do that. You know, I want to help people have confidence again and you know, it just… because to me, you know, your smile is your confidence booster for a lot of people.

So I guess when I grow up I want to be the person that, you know, helps people and helps people to feel better about themselves. And I feel like IU is definitely helping me do that.

Because if I didn’t go to IU, if I didn’t randomly decide to apply one day, I might not be doing any of this, you know? Really, honestly.

So I’m thankful and that’s what I want to do one day, hopefully.

The IU Kokomo brand logo appears on the screen and the website, iuk dot edu is show as the screen fades to black.
