Patients in need of special assistance are his top priority, but he plans to extend the service to others in a short period of time.
Less than 40% of the inhabitants of Turea County are fully vaccinated.
“Dentists are very good at injecting, and adjusting appointments, cleaning teeth and vaccination is an easy way,” Burns said.
Burns got his first batch of Moderna vaccine last Monday.
In addition to completing the necessary training and paperwork, he had to buy a portable refrigerator to transport it and another refrigerator to store it with a high-tech thermometer.
He manages it at his surgical center.
“This is an additional resource and another way people can be vaccinated,” said Annette Burgos, Public Health Emergency Manager, Tulare County. “As you know, there may have been someone on the fence, or something like that, that might just be in for cleaning.”
With just 10 doses at hand, Burns notices that he is starting to get smaller.
But his patients trust him, so he knows he can make a difference.
In addition, by vaccination himself, he can personally guarantee its safety and efficacy.
“All California dentists are 94% vaccinated, and these numbers were announced at the end,” Burns said. “This is a pretty impressive amount of vaccinated dentist. This delta variant is so contagious that it’s a really good time to get vaccinated.”
Dr. Burns says dentists are also equipped to deal with patients who experience the side effects of the vaccine.
He adds that when the time comes, he’s ready to help with the COVID-19 booster shot.
