The Midcoast Babe Ruth League’s regular baseball season is winding to a close, with the playoffs set to begin in the coming days.
On Thursday, July 1, the league for players ages 13-15, Waldoboro posted a 10-4 victory over Rockland Ford, which earned it the top spot for the postseason, while the Damariscotta Lions bested Granite Coast Orthodontics 11-3.
On Tuesday, June 29, P.G. Willey got its first win of the season, as it split a doubleheader with Granite Coast Orthodontics.
P.G. Willey posted an 11-10 win in the second game and Granite Coast Orthodontics a 3-0 decision in game one, while Waldoboro bested the Damariscotta Lions 6-2.
While the regular-season standings are not final, the playoffs seeds are set, as Waldoboro will be the top seed, Rockland Ford second, Damariscotta Lions third, Granite Coast Orthodontics fourth and P.G. Willey.
The standings at the conclusion of play Thursday included: Waldoboro 8-1, Rockland Ford 7-2, Damariscotta Lions 5-4, Granite Coast Orthodontics 2-8 and P.G. Willey 1-8.
The final games of the regular season are scheduled for Tuesday, July 6, as Rockland Ford will host Damariscotta Lions and P.G. Willey will host Waldoboro.
Playoff games, scheduled for Saturday, July 10 at Morrill Field on Thomaston Street in Rockland, will see No. 4 Granite Coast Orthodontics host No. 5 P.G. Willey at 9 a.m., as the winner plays top-seeded Waldoboro at noon. No. 2 Rockland Ford will host No. 3 Damariscotta Lions at 3 p.m. Saturday’s survivors will meet the next day.
The best-of-three championship series, at the same venue, will be on Sunday, July 11 at 11 a.m., with the second game to begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first.
A potential winner-take-all final, if necessary, will be on Monday, July 12 at 5 p.m. at Morrill Field.

Waldoboro 10, Rockland Ford 4
At Waldoboro July 1, Waldoboro swung past Rockland Ford and clinched the top seed in the playoffs. Waldoboro scored one run in the first inning, one in the second, three in the third and five in the sixth, while Rockland Ford plated four in the sixth.
Jacob Watkinson, Gilbert Stewart and Dylan Winslow pitched for Rockland Ford and allowed a combined 10 hits, while Porter Gahagan and Gabe Lash allowed 11 hits on the mound for Waldoboro.
The Waldoboro offense was led by Jaiden Starr (single, 2 runs), Aaron Reed (double, 2 runs), Gahagan (run), Issac Simmons (2 singles, 2 doubles, 2 runs, 5 RBIs), Sam Moody (2 singles, run), Kyle Smith (run, RBI), Lash (single, 2 RBIs) and Walker Simmons (single, double, run).
For Rockland Ford, Taygan McAllister (double), Watkinson (2 singles, run), Winslow (single, run), Dylan Chiaramonte (single, run), Bryson Mattox (single, run, RBI), Parker Darge (RBI), Josh Pratt (single), Stewart (single, RBI), Joey Brown (single, Dominic Frisone (RBI) and Kavie Maloney (single) paced the offense.
Granite Coast Orthodontics 3, P.G. Willey 0
At Rockport June 29, Granite Coast Orthodontics prevailed via shutout. The hosts scored runs in the first, third and fourth innings.
GCO was led at the plate by Owen Hotchkin (double, 2 runs), Ezra Landry (single) and Wyatt Butcher (run, stolen base). For P.G. Willey, Brian Leonard singled for the lone hit.
Leonard pitched for P.G. Willey and allowed two hits, two walks and one hit batter, with six strikeouts. Franklin Coffey pitched for Granite Coast Orthodontics and allowed one hit and no walks, with six strikeouts.
P.G. Willey 11, Granite Coast Orthodontics 10
At Rockport June 29, P.G. Willey slugged to its first win of the campaign. P.G. Willey scored five runs in the second inning, one in the third and five in the fourth, while Granite Coast Orthodontics plated one in the first, three in the second, four in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Will Laidlaw (2 singles, run), Roan Aldridge-Peacock (single, run), Mickey Nowell (run), Walker Hedrich (home run), Thomas Pickford (run), Kai Young (2 runs), Brian Leonard (single, 2 runs), Caleb Butler (single, run) and Cayden Fowler (run) led P.G. Willey at the plate, while Owen Hotchkin (double, single, 3 runs), Ezra Landry (2 doubles, single, run), Robert Bixby (single), Gavin Campbell (single, run), Brennan Wright (run), Micah Fagonde (run) and Jonathan Ward (2 singles, 3 runs) paced GCO.
P.G. Willey pitchers allowed eight hits and three walks, with six strikeouts. Granite Coast Orthodontics pitchers allowed six hits and 13 walks, with three strikeouts.
Waldoboro 6, Damariscotta Lions 2
At Newcastle June 29, Waldoboro tripled the host Lions. Waldoboro scored one in the second and third innings and two each in the sixth and seventh, while the Lions scored in the first and sixth.
Waldoboro was led offensively by Kaden Genthner (run), Aaron Reed (single, 3 runs, stolen base), Porter Gahagan (single, run, stolen base), Sam Moody (run), Kyle Smith (single) and Gabe Lash (single, stolen base).
For the Lions, A.J. Giberson (run), Micah Tomasello (2 singles), Carson Hallowell (single, stolen base), McDaniel (double, stolen base) and Lincoln Ball (single, run) paced the offense.
Blake Grady and Tomasello pitched for the Lions and allowed four hits and three walks, with 12 strikeouts. Lash, Isaac Simmons and Gahagan pitched for Waldoboro and allowed five hits and five walks, with 11 strikeouts.
