MORE needs to be done to provide dentist places for residents after a woman was told to register in Lancaster.

Eleanor Fisher has been trying to get a new dentist for six months in the Ulverston area, being informed by a number of practices that they are ‘taking on no new patients’.

The 77-year-old want told that she could try some practices in Lancaster but at the age of 77 she does not want to travel an hour to get treatment each time.

Caroline Shaw said: “We moved to Ulverston a year and a half ago. Not been able to get a check up at all for our family of 6! No one taking anyone on, so no appointments for us. Absolute joke.”

Brian Phillips Kt said: “It’s the same in Barrow I’ve been waiting over 12months and have started to lose teeth now.”

Moyra Lindsay said: “I got offered Blackpool; they said that was the nearest.”

Lara999 said: “We pay through our taxes for NHS dentistry yet it is unavailable for many. Not good enough.”

Duncan Mills said: “I am willing to swap my dentist appointment for a tank of diesel, apply within.”

Helena Handcart said: “I tried to find a dentist at the beginning of the year after recently returning to the area and ended up phoning the emergency dentist’s number. I was told that they no longer did emergency treatment and that I had no chance at all of getting a dentist in Cumbria, Lancashire or Yorkshire. When I asked what they suggested I do, I was told ‘go private’.

“Fortunately, my previous dentist in Scotland has agreed to keep me on there. All I’ve got to do now is spend a fortune on petrol driving to Glasgow and back and a hotel for the night. By the time you factor in meals and parking etc, it should only cost me about £250.”
